Privacy Policy

Streal (“the extension”, “we”) is a browser extension that helps you learn a language while watching Netflix. This policy explains what data is processed, why, and with which providers. We follow a data-minimization principle.

1. Our approach to Netflix

Streal does not store, download or redistribute any Netflix video. The extension only reads the subtitle text shown on screen (the page DOM), much like a screen reader. No video content is captured.

2. Data we process

• Account: if you sign in, your email address and Google identifier (via Google OAuth). Streal never creates or stores a password.
• Learning data: saved vocabulary, level, progress, review history, usage stats. Stored locally in your browser and, if you're signed in, synced to your account.
• Subtitle text: the lines shown on screen are sent to our translation and review providers to deliver the service (see §4).
• Payment: if you subscribe to Premium, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details; we only keep your subscription status.
• Usage stats: activity metrics (sessions, words, reviews) stored locally, to power your progress and improve the product. No advertising tracking.
• Install link requests: if you ask us to email you the install link (Streal is a Chrome extension and cannot be installed from a phone), we store the address you entered, your site language, the page you asked from and whether you were on mobile or desktop.

3. Purposes and legal basis

We process this data to provide the service (performance of the contract): show translations, save your vocabulary, track progress, manage your subscription. Account sync is based on your choice to sign in.

If you request the install link by email, we process your address on the basis of your request (steps taken at your request prior to entering into a contract), for the sole purpose of sending you that link and understanding which pages generate requests. We do not add you to a newsletter and we do not sell or share the address.

4. Providers (sub-processors)

• Supabase — database hosting and authentication (account, synced vocabulary, subscription status).
• Google — sign-in via OAuth (email, identifier).
• Stripe — payment processing and subscription management.
• Google Analytics — audience measurement on our website (streal.app).
• Resend — sending the install-link email you requested.
• Translation and hosting — Third-party services.

These providers may process data outside the European Union under appropriate contractual safeguards. Subtitle text sent for translation or reviews is not used by Streal for any other purpose.

5. Retention

Local data stays in your browser until you delete it (or uninstall the extension). Account data is kept as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

Install-link requests are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted. You can ask us to delete yours sooner at any time.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability. To exercise them, email us at streal.learn@gmail.com. You can also clear your local data by removing the extension.

7. Cookies and tracking

The extension uses no advertising cookies or third-party trackers. Its usage statistics are stored locally and are not used to target you.

Our website (streal.app) uses Google Analytics 4 to measure audience (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, which buttons are clicked and how far the page is scrolled) and improve the site. Google may set cookies or identifiers for this purpose and may process data outside the European Union under appropriate safeguards. These measurements are aggregated and never used for advertising: we run no advertising pixel, and Google Analytics is configured with IP anonymisation and with Google Signals and ad personalisation switched off. You can opt out via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

This policy may change. The “last updated” date above reflects the latest version.
